Biography

Bryan Segers is a passionate and largely self-taught Dutch composer on the autism spectrum, who has mastered piano-mechanics, composition, and performance. His unconventional and undiplomaed path in music is paved with remarkable achievements, including teaching himself to play Mozart and Chopin melodies by ear at the age of four and mastering the complex piano repertoires of composers like Alkan, and has had the honor of giving a lecture at the University of Boston.

At the age of twelve, he began formal piano lessons and later enrolled in a piano-mechanics course instead of pursuing high school. His talents caught the attention of the Conservatory of Amsterdam, where he studied for a year before illness forced him to quit. Despite this setback, Segers was lauded with recommendations that allowed him to continue participating in master classes, focusing on his well-being and music.

Segers has composed for animation shorts, written challenging piano Ă©tudes geared towards professional pianists, and arranged pieces for renowned musicians and ensembles, including an opera for the Aurelia Saxophone Quartet. He's best known for his sets of Christmas variations on the theme 'Deck the Halls.'

Currently collaborating with the New European Music Ensemble and Emlyn Stam on a significant personal project related to autism, Segers offers his services online, receiving exclusively five-star reviews on platforms like Superprof and Fiverr. Despite being diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder which affects his piano playing, his health is improving, and he continues to find joy through composing.

Segers spends hours every day immersed in music, studying and composing seven days a week. His leisure time is rich with passions for cultures, the Japanese language, drawing, reading, gastronomy, video games, and movies. Despite personal challenges such as depression and autism, music remains his lifeblood, providing him with purpose and an outlet. His creative expression, fueled by his personal struggles, contributes to his unique musical voice.

Bryan aims to communicate and understand the world through music. He states, "Whatever path my life may trace, through passing years and changing pace, To writing sketches, I'll return, in music's embrace, my passion burns. But when I'm lost, one truth I know, it's back to the piano I must go, For in its keys, I find my part, and through its chords, I find my heart."

Words may sometimes elude him, but his compositions, as well as the repertoire he chooses to play, speak volumes—they are the purest translation of who he is.
